AROUND BERGAMO!

  • Crespi D’Adda

Crespi d'Adda is a historic village  in Capriate San Gervasio,  in the Bergamo province, bordering with the Milan province. It is an outstanding example of the 19th and early 20th-century "company towns" built in Europe and North America by enlightened industrialists to meet the workers' needs. The site is still intact and is partly used for industrial purposes, although changing economic and social conditions now threaten its survival. Since 1995 it has been on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. Remember that starting from Crespi, there are a lot  of fascinating itineraries along the river Adda, ideal for walking and cycling.

How to get here→ from the train station, take the T.B.S.O. bus to Trezzo sull’Adda. One of the stops is Crespi d’Adda.

  • Lake Iseo

Old hamlets rich of culture and tradition overlooking the lake, scenic roads along amazing landscapes, ravines, beaches and silent spots. Lake Iseo is a real wonder, only 30 kilometres from Bergamo: here you can enjoy an excursion by boat, a nice bath or a long walk, tasting the local cuisine along with the best wines of the territory.  Explore the heart of the lake, Montisola, Europe’s largest lake island, climb to castle, hire a bike or take the boat to go to San Paolo and Loreto, two fairy-tale little islands next to Montisola.

How you get here: take the bus Bergamo-Tavernola at the bus station in shelter n.7.

  • Castello di Malpaga

Malpaga Castle is a castle in the communal territory of the small village Cavernago. Its main features are the interior rooms frescoed by the Renaissance painter Il Romanino. An early medieval castle had been in ruins after a raid in the 1440s and in 1456, the condottiero and nobleman Bartolomeo Colleoni acquired the ruined castle. He enlarged and enriched it not only as a military base for his troops, but also as a seigneurial residence, in the typical Italian Renaissance fashion.

How to get here: take the R 00056 bus to Soncino - via Zanardi at the bus station, shelter n. 6,  then walk for 15 minutes. As an alternative go by bike, following the cycling path along the Serio river leading to Malpaga.

  • Oneta

Just above the village of San Giovanni Bianco,  in the Brembana Valley, the old mule track leads to Oneta, where tradition locates the birthplace of the mask Arlecchino. The old houses, some of which have been renovated respecting the original structure,  give the district an ancient atmosphere that you can breathe walking through the narrow arcaded streets with stone portals,  balconies made of carved wood and small windows.

  • The Orobie Park of Bergamo

The Orobie Mountains Park is a protected area that has been defined as a "Mountain Park forest." It covers an area of 63 thousand hectares . Its territory is marked by the rivers Brembo, Serio and Dezzo that run through the Brembana, Seriana and Scalve valleys. It  is the largest natural area in Lombardy with imposing mountain ranges and breathtaking views.

For hikers, the park offers over 1,000 Km of challenging routes. The best known are the "Sentiero dei fiori", a real high-altitude botanical garden that grows along the slopes of Mount Arera (around 2,000 metres high), and the "Sentiero delle Orobie", which crosses all the prealps connecting one refuge with the next.
It is not hard to see different examples of Alpine wildlife, such as chamois and ibex, and if you look up at the sky you may catch sight of an eagle.

A memorable experience!
